KNYLANG Journal of Arts & Culture
Minimalist branding and website design for KNYLANG, a Southeast Asia–focused arts and culture journal based in Kuching, Sarawak. The logo draws inspiration from the hornbill silhouette, representing the creative spirit of the region, while the monochrome color palette keeps the site neutral — a blank canvas colored by the art, music, literature, and film it features.

Challenges

KNYLANG is an arts and culture journal dedicated to showcasing creative talent across Southeast Asia, from visual arts to literature, film, and music. The challenge was to create a branding and website system that could reflect the diversity and vibrancy of the arts while remaining simple and unobtrusive. The design needed to provide a flexible, neutral canvas that highlights the work itself without overwhelming it.

Output

The final branding consists of a bold hornbill-inspired logo paired with a black-and-white color scheme, forming a minimalist yet distinctive visual identity. The website design emphasizes clarity, with categorized sections for Visual Arts, Books & Literature, Film & Cinema, and Music, allowing readers to easily discover content. The monochrome aesthetic creates a neutral backdrop that adapts to the colors and vibrancy of the work being showcased, effectively turning the site into a “living canvas” for the arts.

Impact

The project provided KNYLANG with a professional, cohesive brand and a flexible digital platform that highlights creative talent across Southeast Asia. The neutral design ensures that the content takes center stage, giving readers an uncluttered, engaging experience. The website successfully organizes diverse artistic disciplines while maintaining a strong, recognizable identity that aligns with the publication’s mission.
